Birth is an on-chain algorithmic art collection on Bitcoin.
This is the most conceptually loaded artwork I’ve ever created, an artwork, where every single element has a purpose: Tell something from the story of your Birth through symbols and hints.
What do you know about the story of your Birth? Maybe a date of when it all happened? Maybe a story of how your parents came up with your name?
But what do you know about your race through cervical mucus, fluid currents in the uterus, against millions of opponents to prove your worthiness?
- What are you even talking about?
We are the fittest sperm cells, who survived a competition against millions of others. A competition with at least 50 million other participants, sometimes up to hundreds of millions, with only one winner.
As I was working on the artwork about the story of your Birth, I realised the importance of this story more and more:
The story of your Birth is the story of your perseverance and strength. It is the symbol of your inherent human potential.
And working on it, I am creating an eternal reminder of the story of your Birth, so that you don’t forget to believe in yourself on the way to your dreams.
For hundreds of years snakes have been a symbol of motherhood, fertility and rebirth.
One example of the symbol manifesting in our history is the Hopi tribe of North America.
They believed in it so much, that they performed a snake dance and released live snakes into the field after planting crops. Snakes were the source of birth for the seeds.
And the symbol is a worldwide phenomena: the Buddha himself was able to meditate for 7 days to gain insight from enlightenment he’d gained only because of the help of the serpent king Mucalinda, who protected him from the elements of nature.
Being a symbol of motherhood and fertility, the snake in the artwork is the symbol of your mother.
Paint, with which the snake draws the cosmos, symbolises your father’s semen, without which your mother wouldn’t have been able to give birth to you. Snake in the process of painting is your mother and father in the process of giving birth to you, their child.
The flow of paint is different in different artwork variations. In some variations, the paint will flow slowly and straight, in some — the flow will be wiggly, lively and energetic.
The unique flow of paint symbolises the unique genome of every father. I summarised the variations of the paint flow to 4 traits. Paint can be Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholic and Choleric.
When you find the artwork with your paint temperament, the paint will be a symbol of you in the form of a little seed, unfolding into a baby.
Canvas is an artwork, which hasn’t been drawn yet. It is a symbol of potential the mother has. It is a symbol of you before you were born.
Every mother has a “canvas” she can paint on, i.e. give birth to a child.
Also, the canvas is generative, and sometimes it might have scratches/abrasions in different places.
Some of us aren’t born perfect, some of us have genetic defects, some are born into poor and struggling families. The scratches/abrasions symbolise a different “starting point” in life.
Cosmos is the symbol of you after birth.
Why cosmos?
Cosmos is vast and beautiful, just like your soul. Every single human has something inside, that unique flavour, which cannot be found in any other human.
Cosmos is how I decided to depict this. Stars in the artwork will never be identical, even if the artwork collection had billions of variations released.
Also, after painting the cosmos, scratches on the canvas are barely visible. I made it specifically in this way to underline the fact, that if you wish, your potential can outshine the difficulties you were born with. Don’t doubt yourself and strive for the life you dream of.
In the centre of the artwork there is a zodiac sign, under which you were born. And in the corners of the artwork there are elements of the zodiac sign.
I added it to embed a date of birth into the artwork, so that different variations tell different people’s stories of Birth.
When you find a variation of the artwork, which has paint with your temperament, which has a zodiac sign of yours, which has colours and patterns you like, you will find a variation, which tells the story of your birth.
And your story will be told forever, on-chain.
By the way, I haven’t told you about all the symbols in the artwork.
E.g. sometimes there are 2 snakes, why is that? Why are snakes glowy in cosmos?
